About Us

We are two teachers, Dara Bayer and Chris Flaherty, and two students, Kamiya Parkin and Ja’Hari Ortega, from Boston Arts Academy (BAA) who have been granted the special opportunity to travel to the Marayundo Girls School in Rwanda from August 12-22, 2016. The purpose of this trip is to share teaching and learning experiences and practices with the teachers of of Marayundo as well as learn about the school’s success with building a strong community of STEM education for girls in Nyamata, Rwanda.

During our ten days at the Marayundo School  we plan to work one on one with teachers, lead informal discussions and workshops, observe classes, meet with community leaders, and visit other schools and cultural institutions.

This blog is designed to capture our written and visual reflections as we embark on this journey of cultural and educational exchange. Each day one of us will write a personal entry about what we have experienced. We hope this will provide our family, friends, and broader communities  with a window into our explorations and learning. Enjoy!
